Somatic Coaching

Somatic comes from the Greek word “soma,” which means the body in its wholeness, including the mind, body, and spirit. Somatic therapy is based on the idea that traumatic experiences that are stuck in the body can cause dysfunction in a person’s nervous system and prevent them from processing the experience. The goal is to help individuals understand the link between their body and physical sensations (such as constriction, tightness, heaviness, disassociation, chronic pain) with their unique trauma responses and use that awareness to work through painful unprocessed and overwhelming feelings and emotions. Somatic coaching is ideal for those who want to complement talk therapy with somatic practices such as mindfulness exercises, sensation awareness, and grounding techniques to complete incomplete trauma responses, grow nervous system capacity and develop new thinking patterns and behaviors to move out of surviving to thriving mode.
